Falling in Love with Japan

Brief
Produce a film that captures the everyday wonder of Japan to entice a new audience of European tourists to Japan.

Solution

Japan is historically mythologised amongst Western audiences, often to the point of becoming incomprehensible or intimidating in its otherness. To break down this barrier, we travelled to Honshu, Japan’s main island, to explore a series of untranslatable words and how they are seen in everyday Japanese life.

This concept produced a seven-piece short film series entitled ‘Falling in Love with Japan’, hosted on JNTO’s website and YouTube channels and screened at the Japanese Embassy. Each film celebrated the inherent beauty and wonder of the Japanese culture and its people while demonstrating its accessibility to a European audience; getting to know the mysterious nation isn’t as daunting as it may seem.
